The Power of Solitude: How Being Alone Changed My Life
The power of solitude isn’t just a phrase—it’s something I lived.
Most people run from loneliness. I walked into it—and found clarity about myself and the world.

The Questions That Wouldn’t Leave Me Alone
It all began when I was a teenager. I used to get these intense thoughts like: Who am I? Why am I here? What’s the purpose of my existence? Sometimes I would even wonder—if we’re all going to die someday, then why were we born in the first place?
When I asked my parents about these questions, they told me, “People who have nothing to do think like this. Focus on your studies.” So, I tried to shut those thoughts down. I believed maybe they were just distractions.
But those questions didn’t leave me. They kept coming back, stronger and deeper. By the time I entered adulthood, they became even more frequent. At one point, I stopped running from them and decided to face them head-on. And the best way to do that was simple: spend time with myself.
The First Real Encounter With Solitude
I decided to spend two weeks in my ancestral village. It’s a peaceful place nestled in the mountains, with only 100–200 people. The houses are far apart, and the silence there feels sacred.
Before leaving, I downloaded a bunch of web series and anime to binge during my stay (the internet isn’t great there). But something unexpected happened.
After reaching and meeting my grandparents, I sat down to watch one of the shows. Just a few minutes in, the urge to use my phone vanished. I don’t know why, but I simply put it aside.
It was winter noon. I dragged a chair out into the sun and just sat there—doing nothing. For two to three hours, I sat silently under the sky, listening to birds, feeling the warmth, letting random thoughts drift in. There was no one around. Just me, nature, and peace.
That afternoon changed something in me. Just a few hours alone gave me more self-awareness than I had felt in years. In those quiet moments, I truly felt how the power of solitude could heal and guide me.

The Turning Point: Discovering Vipassana
Back in the city, I stumbled upon something called Vipassana.
For those who’ve never heard of it, Vipassana is a deep form of meditation—a way of life, really. The beginner’s course is a 10-day silent retreat. You meditate for 10–11 hours each day. No phone, no talking, no writing, no reading. Complete silence.
And the crazy part? It’s completely free. Yes, free. Vipassana runs purely on donations. If you benefit from it, you can choose to donate to support future students.

I was immediately drawn to it. It felt like something I had wanted for a long time: a way to go deep inside without any distractions. I booked my spot. (It was so popular, I got a date a month later.) But when the day finally came, I was ready.
How Solitude Reshaped Me
Those 10 days were tough—but magical.
Before Vipassana, I was short-tempered, impatient, and easily distracted.
When I came out, I felt calm, grounded, and more in control of my emotions.
For the first time, I saw how noisy my mind really was. Thoughts would pop up from nowhere—some random, some deep, some shocking. I just sat and observed.
It sounds simple, but the experience of observing your mind without reacting is something that can’t be described in words. You have to live it to understand. I never understood the power of solitude until I stepped away from the noise of everyday life.
And everyone who goes through it has a different experience—because we all carry different stories inside.

What the power of Solitude Has Taught Me (So Far)
If I had to summarize what solitude has given me, here are just a few things:
- Time doesn’t fly. Solitude teaches you stillness. You realize how long a single day can truly feel.
- Presence becomes real. I always heard people say “live in the moment,” but solitude taught me how to actually do it.
- Letting go becomes easier. I realized that I can’t change the past, and I stopped trying to control what’s outside my power.
- Life and death became real. Everything born will one day die—including me. This truth became grounding, not scary.
- Self-awareness grew. I noticed how I behave, how I think, how I take decisions—especially the ones I never used to think about.
- Validation lost its power. I stopped needing approval. Being alone taught me how to be complete within myself
- This moment will also pass, Doesn’t matter happy or sad, Doesn’t matter how good or how bad the situation is.
And honestly, this is just the beginning. I’ve learned so much more—lessons I’ll be sharing with you as I continue to grow.
A Note from Me to You
This is my first blog post, and I wrote it straight from the heart—no planning, just a real experience that changed me deeply.
If you’re going through a tough time, or you feel alone, I understand you. I’ve spent 4–5 years of my life feeling that way. So if you ever feel like no one is listening, just email me your story. I’ll read it. I’ll reply. I care.
Final Thoughts: Give Solitude a Chance
If you’re reading this, here’s my simple message:
Spend time with yourself. You won’t regret it.
In this noisy world, the answers you’re searching for are often buried under distractions. But when you pause, listen, and look within—you’ll meet the person who knows you best: you.
Solitude won’t just teach you about peace. It will teach you about life. I hope this post inspires you to explore the power of solitude for yourself.
See you in the next post. Until then, take care of yourself—and don’t forget to enjoy your life.
